"Tokyo Marble Chocolate" is an original Japanese anime OVA produced by Production I.G. It is directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani and based on the manga of the same name by Fumiko Tanikawa. The animation was created to commemorate the 20th anniversaries of both Production I.G and BMG JAPAN. It was screened at the Tokyo International Film Festival in October 2007 and released on DVD in Japan on December 5 of the same year.
The story centers on a young man and woman who have been unlucky in love. They begin to fall in love on Christmas Day, thanks to the meddling of a mini-donkey and the romantic backdrop of Tokyo Tower. Chizuru loves Yuudai, and Yuudai loves Chizuru, but they cannot say it clearly due to their uncertainties about each other’s feelings and their fear of being hurt from past failed relationships, causing them to drift apart. Chizuru believes this is the end of their relationship, while Yuudai struggles to overcome his cowardice to avoid losing what is most important to him. The story is told from both their perspectives, highlighting their insecurities and misunderstandings in love, and explores whether love can survive if both sides are unable to be honest with each other. The film was awarded the Grand Prize in the Feature Film Category at the 2008 Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival.
