Nabari no Ou (隠の王, lit. Ruler of Nabari) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yuhki Kamatani. The story centers around Miharu Rokujo, a seemingly apathetic modern-day Japanese student who is the bearer of the powerful secret art called the 'Shinra Banshou.' This technique is coveted by various ninja clans who seek to become the ruler of Nabari, the ninja world. To protect Miharu, his classmate Koichi Aizawa and English teacher Tobari Durandal Kumohira secretly join the Banten ninja faction. Despite his initial reluctance to be involved in ninja affairs, Miharu is forced to join their group after several attacks. The narrative follows Miharu's journey as he gets closer to becoming the ruler of Nabari, as well as his interactions with different factions, including rival ninja groups seeking to exploit his power. The manga was serialized in Monthly GFantasy from 2004 to 2010 and was adapted into a 26-episode anime series which aired on TV Tokyo in 2008. The work is notable for its profound plot, complex relationships among the characters, and its exploration of themes such as friendship and the meaning of existence. The anime adaptation was produced by J.C.Staff and licensed in North America by Funimation.
