"Chrome Shelled Regios" (鋼殻のレギオス, Kōkaku no Regiosu) is a Japanese light novel series written by Shūsuke Amagi and illustrated by Miyū. The story is set on a post-apocalyptic Earth, where humanity is threatened by mutated nano-machine creatures called "Filth Monsters." Humans are forced to live in large mobile cities called "Regios" and learn to use weapons called "DITE" and harness the power of "Kei" for self-defense. The story primarily follows Layfon Alseif, a young man in the Academy City of Zuellni, who tries to start a new life, but his past draws the attention of Student Council President Kalian Loss and Nina Antalk, captain of the 17th Platoon, leading him to join their group. The series has been adapted into manga and anime, with the anime produced by Zexcs and aired in 2009. It is licensed in North America by Funimation Entertainment. The light novel series has sold over 5 million copies in Japan. The story also includes a prequel light novel series titled "Legend of Regios," and spin-off series "Regios Crusade" and "Journey of me and Regios."
