Maria†Holic (Japanese: まりあ†ほりっく, Hepburn: Maria†Horikku) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Minari Endō. It was first serialized in Media Factory's seinen manga magazine Monthly Comic Alive on June 27, 2006. The story revolves around Kanako Miyamae, a lesbian high school girl who is terrified of boys and breaks out in hives if touched by one. Hoping to find a female romantic partner, she transfers to an all-girls school, only to find that her ideal candidate, Mariya Shidō, is actually a sadistic cross-dressing boy. The manga has been compiled into 14 tankōbon volumes and has been adapted into two anime seasons, the first airing from January to March 2009, and the second, Maria†Holic: Alive, airing in April 2011. Both anime series were produced by Shaft. The series blends comedy, romance, and school life elements, known for its unique humor and exaggerated character settings. In addition to the manga and anime, it has also spawned drama CDs and other related media.
