Kowarekake no Orgel (lit. "Half-Broken Music Box") is a one-episode Japanese dōjin anime original video animation produced by ElectromagneticWave and directed by Keiichiro Kawaguchi. It originally debuted on December 28, 2008, at the Comic Market 75 dōjin convention. The official DVD version was first released on December 31, 2009, in a limited first edition and special limited edition. The OVA was later adapted into a 34-minute film by Actas, released on September 9, 2010, which used the original voice cast. The movie also includes a 7-minute, 30-second side story not present in the original anime.
The plot follows Keiichiro, a young man who finds a young girl unconscious with a sunflower by a trash heap during a rainy day. He takes her home and discovers she is an older, broken model of a service android called “Parents”. He intends to dispose of her, but she starts functioning and has no memory. He names her Flower, and starts teaching her about the world. Flower suffers from short-term memory loss, so Keiichiro buys her a diary which is used as the primary means of narration in the OVA. As time passes, Keiichiro also begins to reveal his own troubled past.
The work is praised for its touching story, delicate emotions, and exploration of the relationship between humans and robots. Despite being a dōjin production, its production cast includes Keiichiro Kawaguchi, who was also involved in the production of well-known anime such as Great Teacher Onizuka and Hayate the Combat Butler, and features the voice acting of professional voice actors Tetsuya Kakihara (voice of Keiichiro) and Masumi Asano (voice of Flower), with music by Hiromi Satō.
