Fate/stay night is a Japanese visual novel game developed by Type-Moon, released in 2004. It has been adapted into various media, including anime, manga, and films. In 2010, Studio Deen produced the theatrical anime film Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, which is an adaptation of the 'Unlimited Blade Works' route from the game. The film focuses on the Fifth Holy Grail War and the conflict involving protagonist Shirou Emiya, Rin Tohsaka, and their respective Servants. It explores Shirou's internal struggles, his conflict with Archer, and his dedication to justice. While some critics praised its character development and certain battle sequences, others criticized the fast-paced narrative, which cut large amounts of content from the visual novel and caused a lack of coherence. Later, Type-Moon collaborated with Ufotable to create a television anime series of the same name in 2014, re-adapting the 'Unlimited Blade Works' route with higher production value and better pacing. Overall, the Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works film is an important entry in the Fate franchise, serving as a foundation for future anime productions.
