High School of the Dead

"Highschool of the Dead", also known as "Apocalyptic Academy: Highschool of the Dead", is a Japanese manga series written by Daisuke Satō and illustrated by Shōji Satō. The story is set in the present day and revolves around a deadly pandemic that transforms humans into zombies, referred to as "Them" by the main characters. The plot follows a group of high school students - including Takashi Komuro, Rei Miyamoto, Saeko Busujima, Saya Takagi, and Kohta Hirano - and the school nurse Shizuka Marikawa as they struggle to survive in a world overrun by zombies. They not only face the threat of the undead, but also the societal collapse and the dangers posed by other survivors. The manga began serialization in Fujimi Shobo's "Monthly Dragon Age" in September 2006 but was left unfinished due to the death of author Daisuke Satō in 2017. The manga was adapted into a 12-episode anime series produced by Madhouse, which aired from July to September 2010. Additionally, an Original Video Animation (OVA) was released in 2011. Both the manga and anime have garnered significant popularity and have been released in multiple countries and regions. Despite the series' unfinished state, its unique zombie apocalypse setting and character development continue to attract a dedicated fan base.
