Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo (Japanese: ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版:Q, Hepburn: Evangerion Shin Gekijōban: Kyū) is a 2012 Japanese animated film written and chief directed by Hideaki Anno. It is the third film in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy. Set 14 years after the events of Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance and the near Third Impact, the world has become a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Shinji Ikari awakens to find himself in a changed world, with his former allies, including Misato Katsuragi, now part of the anti-NERV organization WILLE and hostile towards him. Confused and hurt, Shinji is rescued by Rei Ayanami and returns to NERV headquarters, where he befriends the enigmatic Kaworu Nagisa and is tasked with piloting the new Evangelion Unit-13. However, Shinji discovers that Rei has lost her memories and that his own actions are the root cause of the near apocalypse. As he navigates this new reality, Shinji faces difficult choices and must confront former comrades and new foes in a bitter battle for the fate of the world. The film notably diverges from the original TV series and previous films in terms of plot and character development, adopting a more cryptic and abstract style.
