Ghastly Prince Enma Burning Up (Japanese: Dororon Enma-kun Meeramera) is a Japanese anime produced by Brain's Base, which aired in 2011. It is a remake of the 1973 anime Dororon Enma-kun, but with a more exaggerated and comedic style, incorporating more adult elements. The story is set in 1970s Tokyo and follows the Demon Patrol, a group from Hell consisting of the hot-headed demon prince Enma, the haughty Yukiko, the half-water sprite Kapaeru, and the old man spirit in the form of a hat Chapeau-jii, plus a normal little girl, who are charged with protecting Earth from monsters that have escaped from Hell. The anime is known for its slapstick fights, sexy character designs, and copious amounts of cultural references. Created by Go Nagai, this anime is a protest against Japanese censorship and features plenty of absurdist humor and erotic elements. The plot revolves around the main characters fighting various bizarre monsters, aiming to bring the audience a crazy experience full of pratfalls, lewd behavior, and lots of obscure cultural references.
