Blood-C is a 2011 Japanese anime television series co-created by studio Production I.G and manga artist group CLAMP. It is the second anime series in the Blood franchise, following the 2005–2006 series Blood+. The original 12-episode series aired in 2011, with a sequel film, Blood-C: The Last Dark, released in Japanese theaters the following year. The story centers on Saya Kisaragi, an outwardly normal high school girl who is secretly a skilled swordswoman tasked by her father to defeat Elder Bairns, monsters that feed on human blood. As her battles intensify and more of her loved ones fall victim to these monsters, Saya begins to uncover disturbing truths about her reality, her town, and herself. Blood-C shares thematic similarities with previous Blood projects but incorporates new elements, such as a high school setting. The Elder Bairns were inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos and modeled after traditional Japanese monsters. Its graphic violence led to censorship in Japan and a blacklisting in China. Despite this, the series has received mixed to positive reviews.
