Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin (機動戦士ガンダム THE ORIGIN) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, serving as a retelling of the 1979 anime series Mobile Suit Gundam. The manga was serialized in Gundam Ace magazine from 2001 to 2011 and was adapted into an Original Video Animation (OVA) series by Sunrise, released in six parts between 2015 and 2018. The OVA focuses on the stories of Casval Rem Deikun (Char Aznable) and his sister Artesia (Sayla Mass), while also delving into the Universal Century setting and the beginning of the One Year War. Subsequently, the OVA was re-edited into a 13-episode TV anime series, which aired on NHK General TV in 2019 under the title Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin - Advent of the Red Comet. The work makes numerous modifications and expansions to the plot, characters, and mecha settings, introducing mobile suits before the war begins and elaborating on Char's backstory. The series is highly acclaimed for its high-quality production and excellent retelling of the original story.
