Star Blazers 2199

Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199, known in Japan as Uchū Senkan Yamato 2199 (宇宙戦艦ヤマト2199), is a 2012-2013 Japanese military science fiction anime television series. It is a remake of the original 1974 Space Battleship Yamato television series created by Yoshinobu Nishizaki and Leiji Matsumoto. The series is a space opera, and was originally screened in theaters across Japan, a few episodes at a time before being released on home video and broadcast on television from April 7, 2013, to September 29, 2013. Set in 2199, Earth is devastated by the Gamilas, turning the planet into a charred, red landscape. Humanity's last hope comes from the planet Iscandar, which promises to restore Earth if they can reach it. A space battleship, the Yamato, based on a WWII battleship, is built to travel to Iscandar, carrying the best soldiers. While retaining the classic elements of the original, the series features updated characters, technology, and animation styles, introducing new characters and plot lines. Two movies, 'Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199: A Voyage to Remember' and 'Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Odyssey of the Celestial Ark', and a sequel series 'Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202' have also been released.
