The game is notable for its 'Heart System,' where players collect 'Hearts' through interactions with characters, influencing the game world and story. Set on the island of Wyndaria, the protagonist Rick works at a bakery with three heroines – Neris, Amil, and Airy. The story revolves around a mysterious girl named Kaguya who has lost her memories and emotions. Rick and his companions must help Kaguya recover her memories and emotions while fighting pirates seeking her special spirit stone. The game was also adapted into an anime series titled Shining Hearts: Bread of Happiness, which premiered in April 2012. The anime follows an animated version of the game's story, with a focus on Rick's daily life at the bakery with his friends and his interactions with Kaguya.
