It explores the early days of the Shinsengumi before its official formation, told from the perspective of Ryunosuke Ibuki. Ibuki is saved by Kamo Serizawa, leader of the Roshigumi, and forced to become his assistant. As Ibuki interacts with the Roshigumi members, he gradually understands that not all samurai are cruel. Political tensions in Kyoto escalate, and the Roshigumi faces internal challenges, eventually evolving into the Shinsengumi. 'Dawn of the Shinsengumi' delves into the early struggles and bonds within the group, providing a deeper historical context and character relationships. Produced by Studio Deen, the 12-episode series aired in 2012. The plot centers on Ibuki's personal growth and the early development of the Shinsengumi, featuring action, drama, and supernatural elements. It is an adaptation of the visual novel game and an integral part of the Hakuoki series.
