Fusé: Memoirs of a Huntress, also known as Fuse: Teppou Musume no Torimonochou, is a 2012 Japanese animated film directed by Masayuki Miyaji. Based on Kazuki Sakuraba's novel Fusé Gansaku: Satomi Hakkenden, the film is a reimagining of Kyokutei Bakin’s classic epic novel Nansō Satomi Hakkenden. Set in the Edo period, it follows Hamaji, a skilled female hunter who travels to Edo after receiving an invitation from her brother. There, she becomes involved in the hunt for the Fuse, human-dog hybrids said to devour people’s essences. Hamaji forms a complicated relationship with Shino, a young Fuse. The movie blends elements of action, drama, fantasy, and romance, portraying Hamaji's journey from a mountain hunter to her involvement in an urban conspiracy and her controversial love with Shino. The animation is well-crafted, with distinct characters, and a compelling plot, making it a worthwhile watch.
