"A Lull in the Sea," known in Japan as "Nagi no Asukara" (凪のあすから), is an original Japanese anime television series produced by P.A. Works. The series is set in a world where humans can live both in the sea and on land. Long ago, all humans lived in the ocean, but some desired to live on land, abandoning the special "Ena" granted by the sea god, which allowed them to live underwater. As a result, humanity split into two groups: the Sea People and the Land People. The anime revolves around four junior high school students from the undersea village of Shioshishio – Hikari Sakishima, Manaka Mukaido, Chisaki Hiradaira, and Kaname Isaki – and their new friends from the surface: Tsumugu Kihara, Miuna Shiodome, and Sayu Hisanuma. They must navigate the divisions between the land and sea people, as well as the complex emotions of adolescence. The anime is split into two parts, the first focusing on their adjustment to the new environment and their relationships, and the second taking place five years later, depicting their new challenges and emotional changes.
