Kyousougiga is a Japanese original net animation (ONA) series created by Izumi Todo and produced by Toei Animation in collaboration with Banpresto. The animation was initially released on Nico Nico Douga and YouTube in December 2011. Five additional episodes were streamed between August and December 2012. A 13-episode anime television series (including two recap and one special episode) aired from October to December 2013. The story is set in a secluded, time-stopped version of Kyoto known as the "Mirror Capital," focusing on the family created by high priest Myōe and their lives there. Myōe, initially ostracized for his ability to bring drawings to life, created the Mirror Capital in the mountains. He drew a rabbit named Koto, who, after making a deal with a Bodhisattva, became the god of the Mirror Capital. Koto and Myōe fell in love and adopted a war orphan named Yakushimaru. Myōe then drew Yase and Kurama as Yakushimaru's siblings. The family lived happily until Koto was taken away after fulfilling her deal with the Bodhisattva. Years later, Yakushimaru, Yase, and Kurama manage the Mirror Capital, awaiting their parents' return. A girl named Koto, who strongly resembles both Myōe and Koto, mysteriously enters the Mirror Capital. As Koto lives there, she searches for a way home and for clues about her own family. The narrative revolves around Koto's arrival and the secrets of the Mirror Capital, exploring themes of family, adventure, and the meaning of life.
