Psycho-Pass 2 is a 2014 anime television series by Tatsunoko Production, serving as a direct sequel and de facto second season to the 2012 anime Psycho-Pass. The series is set in an authoritarian future where omnipresent public sensors continuously scan the Psycho-Pass of every citizen within range. These sensors measure mental state, personality, and the likelihood of citizens committing crimes, alerting authorities when someone exceeds accepted norms. The story follows the Public Safety Bureau's Criminal Investigation Division, led by Inspector Akane Tsunemori, as they navigate another mysterious case. This season introduces new characters, including rookie inspector Mika Shimotsuki and enforcers Sakuya Togane and Sho Hinakawa, as well as Kirito Kamui as the main antagonist, who cannot be detected by the Sibyl System. The core conflict revolves around Kamui's attempt to exploit the Sibyl System's flaws to subvert it, differing from the first season's Shogo Makishima, as Kamui's motives are not chaos and entertainment, but to force the Sibyl System to judge itself.
The second season was directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani and Kiyotaka Suzuki, and supervised by Katsuyuki Motohiro and Gen Urobuchi. Tow Ubukata replaced Urobuchi as the main writer, with scripts by Ubukata and Jun Kumagai. Character designs are by Akira Amano, adapted by Kyoji Asano. The anime aired on Fuji TV's Noitamina programming block from October to December 2014, consisting of 11 episodes. Additionally, a manga adaptation of Psycho-Pass 2 was created by Saru Hashino. While continuing the world-building and themes of the first season, the series received mixed reviews due to issues in plot and character development.
