It was serialized irregularly in the magazine "FEEL YOUNG" from 2002 to 2004, and a collected volume was published in 2005. A Chinese version titled "Supervisor's Off-the-Rails Diary" was released in 2016. The work not only records their daily amusing events but also explores topics such as otaku culture and married life, and has gained great popularity among readers. In 2014, "Insufficient Direction" was adapted into a short-form television anime, further expanding the influence of the work. In addition to faithfully recreating the original story, the anime version also includes interpretations of contemporary otaku culture, and each episode features illustrations and explanations by different celebrities.
