"Paulette's Chair" (ポレットのイス) is a Japanese animated short film directed by Hiroyasu Ishida, released in 2014 as part of the noitaminA 10th anniversary commemoration. The story revolves around a young girl named Paulette and the friendship she develops with a magical chair. Paulette, playing alone in the countryside, feels lonely watching other children having fun. Suddenly, the wooden chair she is sitting on begins to move, bucking like a wild horse and bringing her joy. The chair races through the countryside, eventually throwing her into the middle of the group of playing children, helping her overcome her shyness. This heartwarming short film, praised for its touching story and unique animation style, lasts only 3 minutes but conveys themes of friendship and overcoming loneliness. It was produced by Studio Colorido and Fuji Television Network, with music composed by Masashi Hamauzu. The short is also considered to be one of the inspirations for Makoto Shinkai’s film "Suzume."
