Overlord

Overlord is a Japanese light novel series written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin. The story is set in 2126, where a Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (DMMORPG) called YGGDRASIL is renowned for its high degree of player interaction. After 12 years of operation, the game servers are about to shut down. Within the game, the once-powerful guild Ainz Ooal Gown is down to its last member, a skeletal mage named Momonga. On the eve of the server shutdown, Momonga invites his former guildmates to return, but only one appears briefly. After the game server closes, Momonga finds himself trapped within his game avatar, and the game world, including the Great Tomb of Nazarick, has been transported to a new world. All the NPCs now have their own consciousness. To survive, Momonga takes on the name Ainz Ooal Gown and begins exploring this new world, seeking out other players and uncovering the secrets behind the world. He becomes a powerful magic caster, and also a warrior, aiming to protect Nazarick and establish his rule over this new land. The Overlord series also includes manga and anime adaptations, with the anime being produced by Madhouse and consisting of four seasons, plus several films. It is popular for its unique anti-hero protagonist and its fascinating fantasy world.
