"Young Black Jack" (Japanese: ヤング ブラック・ジャック, Yangu Burakku Jakku) is a Japanese manga series written by Yoshiaki Tabata and illustrated by Yūgo Ōkuma. It serves as a prequel to Osamu Tezuka's original manga, "Black Jack". Set in the 1960s, it follows the story of a young Black Jack, namely medical student Kuroo Hazama. He is a gifted but troubled medical student who attracts attention with his exceptional surgical skills. Despite being a medical student, he is capable of performing seemingly impossible surgeries, demonstrating skills beyond his formal training. Hazama devotes himself to the world of medicine together with the spirited intern Maiko Okamoto, and Yabu, a close friend with a troubled life. Against the backdrop of student riots, war, and corruption, he finds himself caught in a series of circumstances that challenge his integrity as a person and his path towards becoming a surgeon. His choices ultimately lead him to become the legendary Black Jack.
