Set in 2027, in modern-day Tokyo, the story depicts a time when the online game "Phantasy Star Online 2" (PSO2) is extremely popular among Japanese high school students. The main character, Itsuki Tachibana, an average student with no interest in PSO2, gets recruited as the vice president of the student council by council president Rina Izumi.
