"Flying Witch" (Japanese: ふらいんぐうぃっち) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Chihiro Ishizuka. The manga began serialization in Kodansha's "Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine" in September 2012. The story follows Makoto Kowata, a 15-year-old apprentice witch, who moves from Yokohama to Hirosaki, Aomori, to live with her cousins, Kei and Chinatsu Kuramoto, to continue her witch training. She attends a regular high school while also pursuing her magical studies in the nature-rich environment of Aomori. The narrative focuses on Makoto’s interactions with those around her, and the peaceful, whimsical, and slightly eccentric daily life she experiences as she learns about witchcraft. The manga has been adapted into an anime television series that aired from April to June 2016. Both the manga and the anime are known for their soothing atmosphere and beautiful depiction of Aomori's landscapes. The series also incorporates cultural elements and dialects of the Tohoku region of Japan, adding to its unique charm.
