Like the Clouds, Like the Wind (Japanese: 雲のように風のように, Kumo no yō ni Kaze no yō ni) is a Japanese anime television film produced by Studio Pierrot. It is an adaptation of the 1989 novel Kōkyū Shōsetsu by Ken'ichi Sakemi. The story is set in a fictional country dynasty reminiscent of early 17th century China and follows Ginga, a young country girl who volunteers to become a wife of the new emperor. In the court, she meets other women who have their own reasons for being there. They learn to read and write, learn about history, and learn about court etiquette. Ginga's enthusiasm often gets her in trouble, but helps her when the former empress' treachery and a rebellion threaten the capital. The film is noted for its distinctive visual style, reminiscent of Studio Ghibli. It was originally broadcast on Nippon Television on March 21, 1990, and a remastered HD Blu-ray was released in 2021.
