Cheer Boys!! (チア男子!!, Chia Danshi!!) is a Japanese youth novel written by Ryō Asai, first published on October 5, 2010, by Shueisha. The story revolves around a group of university men who form a cheerleading team called "BREAKERS." The novel was loosely based on the real-life men's cheerleading team "Shockers" from Waseda University. The work has been adapted into various forms, including a manga, a television anime series, and a live-action film. The manga was serialized by Kenichi Kondō on the Shonen Jump+ app, and the anime series was produced by Brain's Base, airing in July 2016 for 12 episodes. The live-action film, directed by Hiroki Kazama, was released in 2019. The main character, Haruki Bandō, who was originally a Judo practitioner, decides to form a male cheerleading team with his childhood friend, Kazuma Hashimoto, after experiencing setbacks. They gather a group of diverse members, including the argumentative Mizoguchi, the big-eater Tono, the frivolous Kansai duo Gen and Ichiro, and Sho, who has cheerleading experience. The series portrays the inspiring story of how these boys challenge themselves, push their limits in cheerleading, and build profound friendships.
