Bloodivores is a Chinese-Japanese anime co-production adapted from the Chinese webcomic Time Prisoners by Bai Xiao. The story is set 60 years after a strange insomnia epidemic swept the globe, causing people to go mad after being unable to sleep for more than a week. To combat this, a new medicine was created, but it had the side effect of turning people into vampires. A war broke out between humans and vampires, which the humans won, though some vampires survived. The protagonist, Mi Liu, is a human-vampire hybrid known as the 'Child of Hope', seen as the link between the two species. After leading a bank robbery, Mi Liu is arrested and transferred to a special prison run by a National Defense Agency monitoring vampires. Trying to escape with Anji, Mi Liu encounters strange monsters and discovers the prison is located in the birthplace of vampires - the ancient capital 'Blue Town'. They must fight to survive while also uncovering the secrets of Blue Town and the origin of the monsters. The anime aired from October to December 2016 with a total of 12 episodes, encompassing action, supernatural, dystopian, and dark fantasy themes.
