Idol Incidents (Japanese: アイドル事変, Hepburn: Aidoru Jihen) is a Japanese media mix project by Mages. The plot revolves around an election battle between idols who represent Japan's 47 prefectures. In a parallel Japan plagued by political corruption and social issues, idol groups rise to break the deadlock, participating in elections with the power of song and dance. The project was initially planned as a game for release in Fall 2014 but was postponed to August of the same year. In Summer 2015, the project was "rebooted" with story and character changes. An anime adaptation was announced in 2016 and aired from January to March 2017, consisting of 12 episodes and produced by MAPPA and Studio VOLN. Additionally, a manga adaptation began serialization in September 2016, with collected volumes released in 2017. A mobile game was also launched but its services ended in July 2017. Overall, Idol Incidents is a multimedia project that integrates political, musical, and entertainment themes centered on the idol concept.
