Black Cat Detective is a Chinese animated television series produced by the Shanghai Animation Film Studio, based on a 1982 manhua by Zhu Zhixiang. The show features the adventures of Black Cat Sheriff, a righteous and brave police officer who protects the citizens of the forest. He rides a motorcycle and solves various cases, often confronting villains like One-Ear the mouse. The series, which originally aired from 1984 to 1987, is known for its distinct characters and themes inspired by China’s zero-tolerance policy against crime during the 1980s. Despite some controversy surrounding its depictions of violence and gore, it was popular among both children and adult audiences in China. The show was later restored and re-released as a film in 2010, and in 2015, a new animated film titled 'Mr. Black: Green Star' was released. 'Black Cat Detective' remains a classic in Chinese animation history and is fondly remembered by those who grew up watching it. The series was also dubbed in Japanese as 'Kuro Neko Keibu'.
