"Pop Team Epic" (Japanese: ポプテピピック, Hepburn: Poputepipikku) is a Japanese four-panel manga series created by Bkub Okawa, known for its surreal, absurd, and non-sequitur humor. The manga began serialization on Takeshobo's Manga Life Win website in 2014. It follows the daily lives of two 14-year-old girls, Popuko and Pipimi, as they react in exaggerated and bizarre ways to mundane and strange situations. The manga gained a cult following in both Japan and the West due to its frequent parodies of pop culture, surrealism, and absurdity. The anime adaptation, produced by Kamikaze Douga, is known for its unique animation style and constantly changing voice cast for each episode, further expanding its influence. The anime employs various animation styles, including CGI, traditional 2D animation, and the idiosyncratic style of AC-bu. It's also known for its different voice actor combinations per episode, as well as for its faithfulness to the original material and various pop culture references. The work is also famous for its jokes and parodies targeted at its publisher, Takeshobo.
