Between the Sky and Sea (Japanese: ソラとウミのアイダ, Hepburn: Sora to Umi no Aida, lit. "The Space Between the Sky and Sea") is a Japanese media franchise created by Oji Hiroi and owned by ForwardWorks. It primarily consists of a smartphone game, released for Android and iOS on September 28, 2017. A Microsoft Windows version by DMM was originally announced to be released in Q2 2018, but was ultimately never launched. The game's service ended on May 7, 2019. An anime television series adaptation by TMS Entertainment aired from October 4 to December 20, 2018. Sentai Filmworks have licensed the series. The story is set in a future where fish have disappeared from the world's oceans, leaving only whales. To address this, the Ministry of Fishery decides to set up giant experimental Universe Fish Tanks in space. The Onomichi Universe Fishery Union is established, and begins training space fishermen. Female fishermen are in demand due to the strengthening of equal employment laws. The story centers on the growth of six selected female space fishermen. The anime series consists of 12 episodes and was streamed by Crunchyroll.
