Tokyo Ghoul:re is a sequel to the Japanese manga series Tokyo Ghoul, written and illustrated by Sui Ishida. Set two years after the events of Tokyo Ghoul, the atmosphere in Tokyo has drastically changed due to the increased influence of the CCG (Commission of Counter Ghoul). Ghouls still exist and have begun to take more cautious actions, especially the ghoul terrorist organization Aogiri Tree, who recognize the threat posed by the CCG. To combat ghouls, the CCG established a special team called the "Quinx Squad," whose members are half-human, half-ghoul hybrids who have undergone surgery to use ghoul abilities. The protagonist is Ken Kaneki, a ghoul suffering from amnesia, who goes by the new identity of Haise Sasaki, becoming a mentor for the Quinx Squad. He was trained by the elite CCG investigator Kisho Arima, but is gradually troubled by memories lingering in his mind that slowly reveal his past identity. The series explores the complex relationship between ghouls and humans, and the protagonist's struggles as he navigates his identity.
