Yo-kai Watch Shadowside is the successor to the original Yo-kai Watch anime series, first airing on April 13, 2018. The anime is set after the events of the film Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: The Return of the Oni King, and takes a darker, more mature approach compared to its predecessor, focusing on story-driven drama and conflict rather than the original’s comedic and segmented style. The story centers on a Yo-kai detective agency led by Natsume, Touma, and Akinori, who investigate and resolve mysterious incidents related to Yo-kai. It introduces new Yo-kai, as well as redesigned older ones. A significant feature is the dual "Lightside" and "Shadowside" forms of the Yo-kai, which play a key role in the narrative. The series has also spawned manga and video game adaptations. The anime concluded on March 29, 2019, and was followed by the Yo-kai Watch! series.
