Bakumatsu

BAKUMATSU ~Renai Bakumatsu Kareshi Gaiden~ is an original anime adaptation based on the smartphone game "Renai Bakumatsu Kareshi: Toki no Kanata de Hanasaku Koi" by FuRyu. Set in the tumultuous Bakumatsu era, the story follows Takasugi Shinsaku, a samurai from the Choshu domain, and his comrade Katsura Kogoro as they embark on an adventure to prevent the shogunate from obtaining the "timepiece", a legendary treasure with the power to manipulate time. They infiltrate a shogunate warship, intent on destroying the timepiece, but are unexpectedly drawn into an alternate Bakumatsu ruled by a mysterious figure named Mugensai. Within this bizarre world, Takasugi and Katsura encounter many new friends and foes, including members of the Shinsengumi, Sakamoto Ryoma, and other historical figures. They must fight to protect what they hold dear amidst the chaotic times and find a way back to their own timeline. The anime is characterized by high-energy action scenes and memorable characters. Although based on a romance game, the plot focuses on science fiction and action adventure rather than romantic love. The series has two seasons: "BAKUMATSU" and "BAKUMATSU Crisis."
