Midnight Occult Civil Servants (Japanese: 真夜中のオカルト公務員, Mayonaka no Okaruto Kōmuin) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yōko Tamotsu. The story follows Arata Miyako, a new member of the Shinjuku Ward Nighttime Regional Relations Department, which specializes in handling supernatural incidents. Each of Tokyo's 23 wards has such a department. Arata has the unique ability to understand non-human speech, which draws him into various events involving supernatural beings called "Anothers." One night, he encounters a yokai who calls him by the name of the famous occultist Abe no Seimei. The manga began serialization in Kadokawa Shoten's shōjo manga magazine Monthly Asuka on May 23, 2015, and also runs on the Comic Newtype website. The series has been adapted into an anime television series by Liden Films, which aired in April 2019 with 12 episodes. The narrative combines urban fantasy, mystery, and comedy, focusing on how Arata and his colleagues deal with various issues involving the "Anothers," along with their complex relationships and hidden secrets.
