Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka

Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka (Japanese: 魔法少女特殊戦あすか, Hepburn: Mahō Shōjo Tokushusen Asuka) is a Japanese magical girl/military seinen manga series written by Makoto Fukami and illustrated by Seigo Tokiya. It was serialized in Square Enix's Monthly Big Gangan magazine from June 2015 to February 2021, with its chapters collected in fourteen tankōbon volumes. The story is set in a world where the human world is suddenly invaded by magical monsters from the Spirit World. To combat these monsters, several girls form alliances with spirits from the Spirit World, gaining the power to use magic and becoming magical girls. The initial 11 magical girls joined forces with elite soldiers to fight, and eventually five of them defeated the enemy leader in the final battle of the “Distonia War,” becoming known as the “Magical Five.” However, peace didn’t last. Three years later, magic crime and smuggling spread, forcing former Magical Girl leader Asuka Ootorii to return to the battlefield and fight new threats such as the mysterious Babel Brigade. The series has been adapted into a TV anime series by Liden Films, which aired from January to March 2019. The anime is licensed in North America under Crunchyroll-Funimation partnership.
