BEASTARS

Beastars is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Paru Itagaki. It was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Champion from September 2016 to October 2020, with 22 volumes. The story is set in a modern world of anthropomorphic animals, where a cultural divide exists between herbivores and carnivores. The protagonist, Legoshi, is an introverted gray wolf living at Cherryton Academy, where he resides with other carnivorous students, including his Labrador friend Jack. Legoshi works as a stagehand for the school's drama club, supporting the actors led by the red deer Louis. However, one night, an alpaca named Tem is brutally murdered and devoured, sparking distrust between the herbivore and carnivore students. Meanwhile, Legoshi has a fateful encounter with Haru, a dwarf rabbit who has feelings for Louis, and he begins to develop complex emotions for her. Beastars has also been adapted into an anime series produced by Studio Orange, airing on Fuji TV's +Ultra programming block. The first season aired from October to December 2019, the second from January to March 2021, and the first part of the final season premiered in December 2024. The anime series is licensed by Netflix. The series has won numerous awards, including the 2018 Manga Taisho Award and several other prestigious recognitions.
