"Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation" (Japanese: 無職転生 〜異世界行ったら本気だす〜, abbreviated as "Mushoku Tensei") is a Japanese light novel series written by Rifujin na Magonote and illustrated by Shirotaka. The story revolves around a 34-year-old NEET who dies in a traffic accident and is reincarnated in a sword and sorcery world as an infant, Rudeus Greyrat. Retaining his memories from his previous life, he resolves to live his new life to the fullest, learning magic from the magician Roxy Migurdia, befriending the half-elf Sylphiette, and tutoring the noble heiress Eris Boreas Greyrat. Rudeus strives to make the most of his second chance and live without regrets.
The series began as a web novel on "Shōsetsuka ni Narō" in November 2012, later published as a light novel by Media Factory. It has been adapted into manga, anime, and other media. The anime's first season aired in 2021, followed by the second season in 2023-2024, with a third season announced. The series is praised for its detailed character development, world-building, and portrayal of the protagonist's growth, though early content was subject to controversy due to sexual themes.
The story takes place in a fantastical world called the "Six-Faced World," with diverse races inhabiting each continent. Rudeus, possessing memories and magical aptitude from his past life, utilizes his advantages to grow. He faces various challenges, including a major catastrophe that destroys his home, and embarks on a lengthy journey, continually developing into a person who finds happiness.
