LISTENERS

LISTENERS is an original Japanese anime television series produced by MAPPA and created by Jin. The series aired from April to June 2020 on the Animeism programming block. It is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is threatened by mysterious lifeforms called "Earless," and "Players" protect humanity by piloting special combat mecha known as "Equipment". The protagonist, Echo Rec, dreams of becoming a Player, but his destiny changes after encountering Myuu, a mysterious girl with amnesia and an audio input port on her body. Myuu's port signifies that she is a Player, and together the two embark on a journey to discover Myuu's origins and the legends of the Players. The anime combines sci-fi, action, and musical elements, incorporating the history of rock music, offering the audience an unforgettable journey. Additionally, "The Listeners" has also been adapted into a 2024 TV series of the same name, based on Jordan Tannahill's 2021 novel, which tells the story of a woman who can hear a mysterious humming noise and her exploration of the phenomenon.
