The story is set in the fictional Japanese town of Kurouzu-cho, which is plagued by a supernatural curse involving spirals. The manga follows high school student Kirie Goshima and her boyfriend Shuichi Saito as they witness the spiral curse's horrifying effects on the town's inhabitants, causing them to become obsessed with spirals and transform into grotesque creatures. The curse also warps the town's environment, creating bizarre natural phenomena. As the story progresses, Kirie and Shuichi attempt to escape Kurouzu-cho but discover it is an endless cycle. Known for its unique horror atmosphere, disturbing imagery, and symbolic use of spirals, Uzumaki is considered one of Junji Ito's most acclaimed works. It has been adapted into various media, including a live-action film, video games, and an anime series.
