A wiki is a form of hypertext publication on the internet that allows users to collaboratively edit and manage content directly through a web browser. Typically, a wiki contains multiple pages that can either be edited by the public or limited to use within an organization for maintaining its internal knowledge base. The core concept of a wiki lies in its open editing model, which enables users to create and modify content easily without requiring any special skills. Wiki software, also known as wiki engines, provides the technological foundation for wiki websites. They differ from other web-based systems like blog software or static site generators in that the content is created without a defined owner or leader, possessing less structure, allowing it to emerge according to user needs. Wiki engines typically allow content to be written using a lightweight markup language and sometimes offer a rich-text editor. Wikis have a wide range of applications, including knowledge management resources, note-taking tools, community websites, and corporate intranets. Among them, the most famous wiki is Wikipedia, a global online encyclopedia created, edited, and verified by volunteers. The emergence of wikis has greatly facilitated the sharing and dissemination of knowledge, as well as the convenience of online collaboration.
