Higurashi: When They Cry Gou

Higurashi: When They Cry – Gou (Japanese: ひぐらしのなく頃に業, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou) is a 2020 anime series that serves as a sequel to the Higurashi When They Cry franchise. Produced by Passione, the story is set in the village of Hinamizawa in 1983, where the protagonist, Keiichi Maebara, enjoys a seemingly peaceful life with his new friends. However, as time goes on, he begins to uncover dark secrets hidden within the village. Initially perceived as a remake of the original series, it was later revealed to be a brand-new story with connections to both the original Higurashi series and Umineko When They Cry. The anime consists of 24 episodes and aired from October 2020 to March 2021. It retains the suspense and horror elements of the original while adding new mysteries and characters, offering a fresh experience for viewers. A sequel series, Higurashi: When They Cry – Sotsu, aired in July 2021, further continuing the events of Gou.
