"Tokyo Mew Mew New" is the second anime adaptation of the "Tokyo Mew Mew" manga series, created in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the first Nakayoshi issue. The anime consists of 24 episodes, split into two 12-episode seasons. It's a reboot of the 2002 anime adaptation, following the story of five girls who are infused with the DNA of endangered animals, transforming into super-powered heroines to defeat aliens. The opening and ending theme songs are performed by Smewthie, an idol group composed of the main characters' voice actresses. The series is licensed by Sentai Filmworks, with an English simulcast available on Hi-Dive. The story centers on Ichigo Momomiya, who, after being struck by a mysterious light during a date with Aoyama, discovers she has gained cat-like abilities.
