"BEM: BECOME HUMAN" is a 2020 Japanese animated horror adventure film directed by Hiroshi Ikehata, written by Atsuhiro Tomioka, and produced by Production I.G. It is a spin-off of the "Humanoid Monster Bem" franchise, set two years after the events of the 2019 anime television series "BEM." Detective Sonia Summers is on a search for Bem, Bela, and Belo after they disappear. She stumbles upon a city called Doracho Chemicals, where she encounters Belm, a man bearing a striking resemblance to Bem, while Bela and Belo are operating separately. The film explores themes of "self," the cruelty of humanity, and the yearning of the humanoid monsters to become human. Combining action, suspense, and profound reflections on humanity, it is presented through beautiful animation and a powerful voice cast, including Katsuyuki Konishi, M.A.O, and Maaya Uchida. The film was released in Japan on October 2, 2020, and was licensed by Funimation for distribution in North America.
