Burning Kabaddi

"Burning Kabaddi," also known as "Shakunetsu Kabaddi," is a Japanese sports manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Musashino. It was serialized on Shogakukan's Ura Sunday website and MangaONE app from July 2015 to July 2024, with a total of 30 tankōbon volumes. The story revolves around Tatsuya Yoigoshi, a first-year high school student and former ace soccer player who has grown to dislike sports. He gets invited to join a kabaddi team, initially scoffing at the idea, but becomes intrigued after witnessing a kabaddi practice. A television anime adaptation by TMS Entertainment aired from April to June 2021, comprising 12 episodes. The anime was directed by Kazuya Ichikawa, written by Yūko Kakihara, with character designs by Mari Takada and music by Ken Ito. The work has garnered attention for its portrayal of the sport of kabaddi, although the animation quality and character development of the anime received some criticism. It has also been nominated for the Shogakukan Manga Award and has been streamed on multiple platforms.
