The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest

"The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest," also known as "Shikkakumon no Saikyou Kenja," is a Japanese light novel series written by Shinkoshoto. The story follows Gaius, once known as the world's strongest sage, who reincarnates into the future to obtain a crest more suitable for close combat. Reborn as Mathias Hildesheimer, he discovers that the magical world has declined, and his once-powerful crest is now considered a "Crest of Failure." Despite this, Mathias demonstrates exceptional abilities and, upon entering the Royal Second Academy, not only shatters prejudices but also uncovers hidden dark forces. This series blends fantasy, reincarnation, and action elements, renowned for its dramatic storyline and engaging characters. The light novel began serialization online in 2016 on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website, later published by GA Bunko. A manga adaptation by Liver Jam&POPO and an anime adaptation by J.C.Staff, which aired in 2022, are also available, as well as a side story novel and mobile game.
