Higurashi: When They Cry - SOTSU (Japanese: ひぐらしのなく頃に卒, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Sotsu), is a 2021 anime television series and a sequel to Higurashi: When They Cry - GOU. Produced by Passione and licensed by Funimation, the series continues the story in Hinamizawa, focusing on the complex relationship between Rika Furude, Hanyū, and Satoko Hojo. Unlike its predecessor, SOTSU is primarily told from Satoko's perspective, revealing her actions to prevent Rika from leaving Hinamizawa, and delves into the themes of time loops and the struggle against fate. SOTSU aims to provide a more conclusive ending to the overall series, resolving some of the mysteries left by GOU. The anime consists of 15 episodes, airing from July to September 2021. The series was placed 5th for "Best Work Award" in Newtype Magazine's Anime Awards 2021-2022, with nominations for director, scriptwriter, soundtrack, theme song, and character design. It's considered a significant part of the Higurashi franchise, offering a deep dive into the character motivations and enriching the overall plot.
