"Uncle from Another World" (Japanese: 異世界おじさん, Isekai Ojisan) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hotondoshindeiru. The story revolves around Takafumi Takaoka's uncle, who suddenly wakes up after a 17-year coma caused by a traffic accident, claiming that he was transported to another world called Granbahamal. The uncle not only possesses magical abilities but also carries memories of the other world. To help his uncle adapt to modern society, Takafumi, along with his childhood friend Sumika Fujimiya, lives with him and watch his memories of the other world. The manga began serialization on Kadokawa Shoten's ComicWalker in June 2018, later moving to WebComic Apanta. As of September 2024, 12 tankōbon volumes have been released. The manga is known for its subversive humor about the isekai genre and its references to gaming culture. An anime adaptation, produced by Atelier Pontdarc, aired from July 2022 to March 2023. In the anime, the uncle's quirky behavior, his love for 90s gaming, and his interactions with his nephew and his friend are highlights of the story, while subtly mocking the common tropes of isekai adventures. Both the manga and anime have garnered widespread popularity.
