"Big Mouth Dudu" is an animated series broadcast on China Central Television's Children's Channel, produced by Wuxi Hongbai Digital Animation Co., Ltd. The series has been controversial since its broadcast, facing accusations of plagiarizing the Japanese anime "Crayon Shin-chan," and being disparagingly referred to as a "knockoff Crayon Shin-chan." The plagiarism includes the storyboard, character designs, and scene settings. Despite the production company's claim that everything except the voice acting is original and that the characters and scenes are localized, criticism of plagiarism did not subside. The main character "Dudu" is considered a copy of Shin-chan, and other characters such as “Xiao En” are seen to plagiarize Nene, and “Dang Dang” is compared to Kazama. The animation's scene design, like neat streets and two-story houses with yards, is deemed a copy of Japanese city planning. The series also is accused of using the original soundtrack of "Jungle wa Itsumo Hare nochi Guu", another Japanese anime. The low-budget production and imitation of foreign works made "Big Mouth Dudu" a laughing stock in international animation circles, among Chinese communities, and in the media, sparking discussions about China's copycat culture. The sequel to the series is "Magical Juliet".
