Released on Netflix in January 2023, the series adapts various stories from horror manga master Junji Ito, including The Hanging Balloons, Sōichi, and Tomie. The series features 20 episodes, each presenting different terrifying tales showcasing Ito's signature bizarre, disturbing, and unsettling style. Kaoru Sawada served as the scriptwriter, and Yuki Hayashi composed the music, both of whom also worked on the previous Junji Ito Collection anime series. The opening theme song is 'Paranoid' by MADKID, and the ending theme song is 'Iu Toori' by Jyocho. 'Junji Ito Maniac' not only represents another animation endeavor of Junji Ito's classic works but also aims to convey the unique charm of this horror manga master to a wider audience.
